Gianna Weil
Peer Mentor
About
Major: Early Childhood Studies (Elementary Pre- credential Path)
FLCs: EDEC 160A, Dr. Nanette Schonleber, Fall 26/Spring 27
Background: Gianna is an education student at Sonoma State who is passionate about education and making a strong impact in her community. She grew up as an only child in a small town in California called Morgan Hill. Gianna is a first-generation college student who has navigated college without having parents who have gone through the same thing. Through transferring schools and experiencing the ups and downs of college, she has learned the importance of having someone to turn to. With her background as a preschool teacher and childcare provider, Gianna wishes to be someone incoming college students could turn to for guidance, advice, and most of all support as they navigate through a brand new chapter in their lives.
Favorite thing about being a FAST Peer Mentor: Gianna is very excited to be a part of the team and is eager to meet her mentees. She hopes to create meaningful relationships with each student and wants to provide a safe space where students feel comfortable coming to her for support, guidance, and help in figuring out college life.
Future Goals: After graduation, Gianna hopes to start her journey as an elementary school teacher. She plans to obtain her teaching credentials and jump right into her very own classroom. She also plans to get a master's degree in child development to broaden her knowledge and to become the best teacher she can be. Gianna hopes that one day she can become a director of her own preschool so she can create a safe environment for kids to grow and flourish. But most of all, Gianna hopes to leave a lasting impact on the children and families she encounters throughout her career.
