About
Academic Major: Sociology
Minors: Political Science
FLCs: MUS 160 A/B, Dr. Alexander Kahn, Fall 25/Spring 26
Background:
Anela was born and raised on the island of Maui in Hawaii. Growing up, one of her biggest role models was her mother, who worked tirelessly in the field of education innovation as a teacher, administrator, and non-profit owner. Anela's schools benefited immensely from her mom's influence, teaching her the value of an innovative education and learning support roles. This influence can be seen now in Anela's passion for supporting her students and faculty in her role as a peer mentor.
Favorite thing about being a FAST Peer Mentor:
In the year that she has been with FAST, Anela's favorite thing about being a peer mentor has been the abundance of community that exists within the program. She has greatly enjoyed working with each of her students, learning as much from them as they do from her. Many of her colleagues at FAST have become valued friends and mentors in their own right, and her faculty and FAST leaders have given her the support and guidance that she needed to excel in this role.
Future Goals:
After she graduates, Anela plans to earn her paralegal certification and work to save up for law school. She would like to work in public interest or defense law because of her passion for social justice.
